Tomáš Brauner

Tomáš Brauner studied the oboe and conducting at the Prague State Conservatory. In 2005, he graduated from the Faculty of Music at the city’s Academy of Performing Arts, having studied conducting under Radomil Eliška, František Vajnar, Josef Kuchinka and Petr Vronský. That was followed by a residency at Vienna’s Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst under Professor Uroš Lajovic. In 2004, he participated in conducting courses given in Wroclaw by Professor Kurt Masur, while in 2010 he was named laureate in the Dimitris Mitropoulos International Competition in Athens.

In 2010, Brauner accepted the position of principal guest conductor at the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra. He also cooperates frequently with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours in Athens, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Zlín’s Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, the North Bohemia Philharmonic of Teplice, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice and the Czech Chamber Philharmonic.

In September 2007, he was guest conductor with the Moscow State Radio Orchestra, with which he accompanied leading soloists from St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre and Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre. In April 2008, he took part in a production of Janáček’s Jenůfa at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.

Brauner has conducted several operas at Pilsen’s J.K. Tyl Theatre, including Verdi’s Rigoletto, Tchaikovsky’s The Maid of Orleans, Dvořák’s Jacobin, Puccini’s Turandot and Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur. During the 2008-09 season he performed Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Sleeping Beauty, and in November 2010 Maurice Jarre’s Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Since the 2008-09 season, he has been guest director at the State Opera Prague, where he has been involved in productions of Verdi’s Othello, Massenet’s Don Quichotte and the Charles Adam ballet Giselle. He has conducted Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Puccini’s La bohème, Verdi’s Nabucco and Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the same venue.

Since 2009, Brauner has regularly worked with the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, where he has conducted Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty. In the 2010-11 season, he wielded the baton in productions of Verdi’s Nabucco and Charles Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet.
